August 31 1997

On August 31 1997 Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee was released to the gaming world. Gamers were introduced to a dark and grim world of enslavement, torture and surprisingly a bit of humor, although it be dark. Years passed and we followed along the rest of the series.

Now here we are in 2016 awaiting the release (and information) on the new installment of the series Soulstorm. Not only is the name very cool but everything I have seen has peaked my interest. Being a fan of the series since it came out this new game’s theme is puzzling yet intriguing, The game seems to be blatantly darker than it’s predecessors and that’s where I want to know more.

What is it,
Where is the story going,
and who will we meet this time?

First off before I continue I would like to state that I am a huge fan of the series and my favorite games from Oddworld are the first, which also means New & Tasty is obviously a favorite as well. and Strangers Wrath. I specifically love Stranger’s Wrath HD. The HD remake was one of my favorite remasters of all time.

I love the way Oddworld Inhabitants revitalizes it’s own games and give the Gamers not just a remaster but they also keep uniqueness and experiences alive within the game.

Now, lets finally get to Soulstorm.

Let’s see some quotes from the page.

Witness Abe’s horrifying conflict with a terrifying new machination.

Ravaged, desperate and hopelessly unprepared

A dark, twisted trip into Abe’s heart and soul.

Those are some of the most extreme statements that I can think of, especially for a game already as dark as Oddworld is. What I am hoping for is an emotional ride that takes us into the heart of who Abe is and what he has become after years of internal torture. Where is he mentally after the horrible holocaust mixed with Soylent Green experiences he has witnessed?

Abe is a strong survivor but how have these experiences left him mentally? I am hoping that the new game will put his mental instability to the test while taking on a new challenge in the games world. It’s almost like diving into the mind of a seasoned veteran of a war. The things Abe has seen would kill ones soul (no pun intended…Okay, a little intended).
